Maxim’s MAX17261 multi-cell fuel gauge is an ultra-low power fuel gauge IC that monitors a multiple-series cell battery pack by use of the Maxim ModelGauge m5 EZ algorithm. This fuel gauge provides precision measurements of current, voltage, and temperature, and provides access to its data and control registers via an I2C interface. The m5 EZ algorithm makes fuel gauge implementation easy by eliminating battery characterization requirements, simplifying host software interaction, and providing tolerance against battery diversity for most lithium batteries and applications. The MAX17261 automatically compensates for cell aging, temperature, and discharge rate, and provides accurate state-of-charge in percentage and remaining capacity in milliamp-hours. As the battery approaches empty, the algorithm invokes a special correction mechanism that eliminates any error.
